How You Can Maintain Your Vehicle
What You Should Be Doing
As most vehicle owners know, one of the most important things they need to consistently do is bring their vehicle in for regular maintenance. Doing so allows technicians like us to properly monitor your car’s condition over time and even predict what system or component may need service next. When you’re following a regularly scheduled maintenance service, you can rest easy knowing that you’ll be driving the best version of your vehicle.
But just because you bring it in for service, doesn’t mean you can completely forget about taking care of your vehicle. There are actions you can do that’ll keep your car at its best in-between services, and it’s important that you’re always keeping them in mind. Not sure what you should be doing? That’s where Whitlock Automotive can help. Here are two common maintenance tasks you need to be doing in-between services:
- Check The Oil — Although it’s best to have your car’s oil changed by professionals, especially if you aren’t familiar with the process, it’s also important that you’re consistently checking the oil to ensure it’s in good condition. Ideally, you want to be doing this once a month. When checking the oil, make sure you’re looking at the oil level and quality. Is the oil at or close to the full line? Does it look clear and have an amber color? If so, that means it’s good to go. If the oil level is low or if it looks dirty, that’s a clear sign that your car is due for an oil change.
- Examine The Tires — When checking your car’s tires, you need to look for any damage and see if the tire pressure is at a proper level. Tire PSI will vary based on your vehicle, so reference the owner’s manual for accurate information regarding tire pressure. As for any damage, you want to look for any air bubbles, nails, or more. Also pay attention to where the damage is, as this can determine if the tire is qualified for repairs. Anything within the tread can be repaired pending other factors, while anything outside of the tread means the tire will need to be replaced.
When practicing these two things, as well as bringing your car in for regular service, you’re placing yourself in the best position to drive the best version of your vehicle.
